Frenchman, Guillaume Eluerd (pronounce L.U Air), was born in Versailles, France, in 1970. His personal DNA test states that he’s a considerate artist. I met him and I can second that! (And I’m sure he’s a lot more!). After releasing several electronica records over the last few years under the name of NIMP, Eluerd recently finished recording his first solo ‘songwriter’s’ album. Being a scriptwriter in the computer gaming industry means that Guillaume spends a lot of his time making up stories and trying to figure out what imaginary people would say to one another in made up conversations. His music seems to come from the same thought process. Midway between the roughness of Americana Acid Folk luminaries Devendra Banhart and the aching and subtle beauty of Sweden’s José Gonzalez, Eluerd’s songs hypnotise the right hemisphere while entertaining the left…

Qui (Pronounce Qwee) was founded in 2000 by drummer/vocalist Paul Christensen and guitarist/vocalist Matt Cronk in Los Angeles, CA. Since debuting in LA in early 2001, and the release of their first full-length album ‘Baby Kisses’ (on Heart Of A Champion records) in 2003, they have maintained a prodigious pace of both local performances and national tours. Their idiosyncratic blend of punk, noise, metal and experimental genres, coupled with their advanced musical prowess, earned them a small but dedicated following throughout the U.S.
In late 2006, Qui was joined by vocalist David Yow of The Jesus Lizard/Scratch Acid fame. Shortly thereafter, the trio released the single, “Today, Gestation” b/w “Freeze” on the Los Angeles based Infrasonic Sound Recordings label. After a brief spring tour and two acclaimed performances at the South By Southwest music conference in Austin, Texas, Qui partnered up with Mike Patton and Greg Werckman’s Ipecac Recordings for their forthcoming full-length entitled ‘Love’s Miracle‘.

Since the winter of 2002 Worrytrain (Joshua Neil Geissler) has found sanctuary in composition with such acoustic inspirations as cello, piano, mandolin and other various stringed and percussive instruments to create organic pieces mapping the cinematicambient and experimental fields. Worrytrain’s evolving cross genre style since his more subtle selftitled debut is most notable on his latest album “Fog dance, my moth kingdom“. This album attempts to balance modern classical composition with harsh electro noise, two fields that he feels can reach the same level of intensity and emotional dialect for those willing to try it and one that he plans to explore more in the future...

After his musical work on the choreographic performance “Comme en plein jour” by Jean Baptiste André under the name PERCEVALMUSIC, Tony Chauvin (Guitar player for cult experimental duo Chevreuil) hits your local club with a new set-up.
Not forgetting his past shows and experiences with CHEVREUIL, Tony Chauvin pushes the limits further away with PERCEVALMUSIC. CHEVREUIL played in the middle of the audience with a quadraphonic guitar surrounding the drums, now the sound is hybrid between the guitar amps and the PA system giving more depth to his eloquent guitar sometimes pretending to be organ or a lead singer, other times a clavinet or a percussion instrument. This live performance surrounds the audience for an experience in-between acoustic and electric, carefulness and brutality, stability and chaos.

Hailing from the likes of England, Belgium and Switzerland, Chapter are as much an amalgamation of sundry musical genres as they are a melting-pot of cultural identities. The band consists of Thierry van Osselt, songwriter and sound engineer, and Alexander Craker, singer and songwriter. Together they build craftworks of warm acoustic guitars, slow-yet-dynamic beats and gloomy folk melodies. The two multi-instrumentalists have configured a live band to deliver the material on the road with help from Alex Muller on bass and guitars (Seaplane Harbor, Equus), Franco Casagrande on guitars and backing vocals (Casagrande) and Christian Pahud on drums (Honey for Petzi, Larytta)

Weird, warm, and enigmatic, the Dust Dive returns from another long field trip with Claws of Light, the captivating follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut, Asleep or Awake Walk. “Like modern Huck Finn tales where the Dionysian clashes with the suburban” (in the words of D. Shawn Bosler of The Village Voice), the Brooklyn-based trio’s new covey of songs soars with gritty equanimity and uncommonly vivid and poetic verse, evoking an urban-pastoral world that is simultaneously arcadian and trashy, dreamy and deadpan, magical and everyday. Claws of Light also maps a curiously wild and deranged sonic landscape, spanning from punk to classical, pre-war American folk to psych, gypsy violin to naturalist field recordings, and classic rock to outsider Americana. When asked to describe their sound, Dust Dive organist Ken Switzer, who spent much of his youth in the backwoods of rural western Massachusetts, offers up the label “experimental campfire music.”

Sleeping People have packed a lot into the two years since the release of their sleeper hit (no pun intended) of a debut album. The San Diego four-piece suddenly found themselves a trio after founding member Joileah Maddock moved to New York City. Almost immediately, Amber Coffman stepped in to replace Maddock. This lasted for little more than a year before Coffman also moved to NYC to join The Dirty Projectors. This prompted Maddock to rejoin the band, just in time to complete their second full-length, Growing. If you blinked, you probably didn’t notice a difference...

With roots deep in the rust-belt communities just south of Chicago, drummer/vocalist Scott Picco and bassist Rob Raspolich have been playing music together since their mid-teens. A few years later, they hooked up with Rich Fessler, first in a band called Hello Operator, before changing gears and re-emerging as Bear Claw, the two bass/drums tour de force we see today. Slow Speed: Deep Owls is their second record for Sick Room. It was recorded and mixed by Steve Albini and Mastered by Bob Weston. Slow Speed: Deep Owls is a true record, in that it is a documentary effort to capture the band at a particular moment in time, against the backdrop of both the personal and political environment...

The Ladybug Transistor story begins in Brooklyn, NY during the mid-1990s. Initially a recording project based around founding member Gary Olson’s collaborations with friends (as heard on their 1995 debut album Marlborough Farms, named after the band’s fabled Victorian Flatbush headquarters and studio), they soon caught the attention of Merge Records who released Beverley Atonale in 1997. It was around this time that Ladybug Transistor evolved into a proper band, which went on to craft the trilogy of The Albemarle Sound (1999), Argyle Heir (2001), and The Ladybug Transistor (2003). During this period The Ladybug Transistor developed and honed their trademark sound - a distillation of classic pop, characterized by a precise melodicism that is anchored by the restrained baritone of Olson.

Centenaire saw the light of day in 2006 with the gathering of Damien Mingus (my jazzy child) , Aurelien Potier, Axel Monneau (Orval Carlos Sibelius) and Stephane Laporte (domotic).
Their music is rooted in Folk, Progressive, Pop and Post music, and is being composed jamming for hours by the fireplace of an old forgotten country house. They use a charango, guitars, a cello, an organ, the vibrastar, a tape echo, various percussions, as well as some fire, rivers, litchis, chamanic plants, electric eels, insects, and about a hundred of other things… Centenaire’s music is meant to be a real-time, live, intimate experience.
