THE EX & THE ILILTA BAND: TOUR MARCH 2009 13th DE Cologne, Nozart Festival 15th FR Tourcoing, Le Grand Mix 16th FR Feyzin, l'Epicerie moderne 17th IT Massa Carrara, Tago Mago 18th IT Roma, Sinister Noise 19th IT Firenze, Flog 20th IT Bologna, Locomotiv 21st IT Verona, Interzona 22nd FR Macon, La cave a musique 24th FR Paris, Café de la danse 25th NL Amsterdam, Paradiso
This year (2009) is the 30th anniversary of The Ex. And after having played 1371 concerts all over the planet, the Ex, sometimes called 'experimental trance-dance avant-afro-punk improv music', appears again with a completely new program.
And a new band member! For this tour The Ex invites Zea frontman Arnold de Boer to join them. One of their favourite musicians for many years now. They worked together on The Ex 25-year Anniversary party 'The Convoy Tour', of which a DVD will be presented on this coming tour. Andy and Terrie also played with him last year may in Ethiopia and it worked a treat!
Arnold will play samples, beats, guitar, vocals and anything he can get his hands on. Terrie and Andy will continue to explore their baritone guitars which appeared in the last set and Katherina will find some more inventive rhythms and hopefully sing some more beautiful tunes. Without doubt it is going to be an exciting new chapter in the Ex's history.

During their March tour The Ex is joined by The Ililita Band. Here's the probably only information about this brandnew band.
THE ILILTA BAND - ETHIOPIA Chalachew Ashenafi - masinqo / vocals Mesele Asmamaw - krar Asnake Gebreyes - kebero
Singer and masinqo (one-string fiddle) player Chalachew Ashenafi was born 41 years ago in Debre Tabor, close to the city of Gondar in Ethiopia where most of the famous Azmari's originate from. Already when very young, he moved to the capital Addis Abeba, to play in the Azmari-bets, small bars where musicians not only entertain, but also tease their audience often as far as they can push it. Not so different from the minstrels and troubadours from the Middle Ages in Europe.
Chalachew has also played at many weddings, which in Ethiopia is a multi-day extravaganza. His popularity grew after the release of three cassettes over the last decade. Last year he released the CD 'Gerager', produced by Mesele Asmamaw, which featured several of the typical Gondar eskesta (shoulderdance) rhythms. He has played in Europe before, in the Ethiopian community in Italy and Germany, but this is his first time playing in front of a European audience.
With the The Ililta Band, in traditional line-up, he joins forces with krar player Mesele Asmamaw and kebero (traditional drum) player Asnake Gebreyes. Both are well-known musicians from the Mohammed Jimmy Mohammed trio, who made a big impact in Europe, until the untimely death of Jimmy in december 2006.
