Singing Knives Records: nuove uscite

Ludo Mich with Syed Kamran Ali & Pascal Nichols - 'The Wet Black Poodle Transforms' - CD

'muscular but leavened with humour and nuanced enough to keep its flavour over repeat listens. Each piece begins with a passage of relatively quiet feet-finding as Ludo barks and gasps and Pascal and Syed answer with pattering percussion and discrete squeaking. Recognizable words begin to form in the swirl and dada incantations follow, interspersed with rasping yelps, menacing snuffling and theatrical chortles. The accompanying percussion is impressivel
elastic, whipping time around Ludo’s flailing limbs. The rest is an almost unplaceable concoction of strings – plucked, bowed, rattled, scraped – rinsed and squeezed through some occult electronics.'

Human Heads - 'The Beauticinist' - CASS

'casting manipulated field recordings as a drizzly backdrop over which are placed the colloquial tics of everyday exchanges. It's equally funny and unsettling [...]
The combination of cheap analogue keyboards played at invasive pitches, primitive percussion presets and cut-up vocals blurting private anxieties allies Human Heads to Industrial revolutionaries like Whitehouse and Throbbing Gristle. There is something of the transgressive humour and ineffable melancholy of those groups on "Swil Impotency" when, out of a horizon line of searing drones and wind-damaged dictaphones, an anonymous lady asks in a sullen Yorkshire drawl: "Are you all right? Do you know where you're going?"

Dylan Nyoukis - 'Carrion Hut' - LP

'amid the cantankerous bluster and fondness for sounds that mainstream convention dictates to be somehow "ugly", Carrion Hut's greatest achievement is in making the undesirable fun. 'Strange New Ache' retains an intense empathy. A text-based piece recited by a selection of alternate male and female voices, it's a Kafkaesque whirligig that emphasizes the timbral individuality of the vocalist even as they garble and malform each and every syllable [...] a record that manages to humanize discomfort in the least pretentious way possible'.

Pekko Kappi - 'Vuonna '86' - LP

'Pekko Käppi is a player of Jouhikko, the ancient Finnish-Karelian bowed lyre, in all-improvised settings and traditional folk songs. NB: Don’t be fooled, this is a full-on, fucked-up, inspired, deeply innovative record with its teeth firmly in noise, sound-sculpture, improvisation and great song writing'.
