The Attack of Generation Toyracer Launchnight

Bull and Gate Kentish Town 25/05/2001

Cicconé, Tartrazine, Moonkat, Lost the Plot

After some, er, difficulties ("but you can't see the *i*, aaaah that stool is really wonky!") we eventually managed to put up the Toyracer banner (some huge spraypaint artefact. Unfortunately we had to chop off some bits of the edges when we took it down) up.

And just when we had sorted out the cake and our fantastic sweets assortment, Lost the Plot started their set. Even though there was some confusion and Lost the Plot thought they were on second (hence told all their mates to get there later), the punk-youngsters from Newbury got quite a good turnout audience-wise. Seeing this was their first gig that was a) in London and b) outside their school, Lost the Plot looked a wee bit nervous when they started. But, Hoorah!, the lads' nerves calmed down soon. Phew. Overall, I'd say Lost the Plot did really really well! Yay!

Next on were Moonkat, who insisted playing early due to exams and other obligations that stopped them from practising. Awwwww! By the time they started, quite a few people had turned up and the cake was half gone, leaving a sticky mess on both hungry people and the table. Eurgh! Moonkat kicked off with "Weeble" (which is, by the way, on the compilation!) which they "had not played for a very long time". It worked out just great, anyway, though. And just great was the rest of their set:o) and it looks like they got loads of fans already. Whoo-hoo!!

Moving swiftly on to...Tartrazine! Em Sparkle sported yet another amazing dress and yet another pair of dangerous looking heels. Well, what can I say, Tartrazine ARE just brillant with all their, er, gimmicks (monkeys and evil laughter bags for starters) and glamour. A-hand! Novelty! Rich Candy's "Playmate Laceration" was performed for the first (and possibly last...) time EVER, with Em Sparkle on vocals. She only learnt to sing that recently:o)

Time for tonight's headliners, the mighty Cicconé, looking especially cool today, with their pilot-shades and,er, interesting T-shirts. The Belding-boys attempted to start what looked like a moshpit and members of Tartrazine broke out in dancing. Very amusing indeed. The Belding boys even got mentioned and were accused of a) being twelve (they're not) and b) therefore underage drinking..ah well...

I don't really know what to say, Cicconé's set was as ace as ever:o)

(Oh and thanks for the chips, Luke)
